How Cedar & Sea Came To Be…

Why Cedar & Sea?

There is the story of how Cedar & Sea came to be.

And then there's the why behind the why.

So really, why Cedar & Sea?

The name was never chosen simply because it sounded coastal or fit beautifully on a sign. It holds something much more personal… the feeling of being rooted in more than one place.

Cedar represents the West.

It represents my deep roots, my connection to the West Coast, and a part of home that exists thousands of kilometres from where I live and work.

And then there is the Sea.

Here on the East Coast, the ocean is woven into everyday life. It's outside our windows, along our drives, and big part of the little community Cedar & Sea calls home.

But, the sea also connects the two...

Two very different coastlines, on opposite sides of the country, with the world ocean connecting them both.

When Cedar & Sea began taking shape, I wanted the space to carry pieces of both, the grounded, forested feeling I associate with the West Coast and the salt air, shoreline, and community I've grown up in, Nova Scotia.

In a way, the name became a bridge between them.

Roots in the West.
Life by the sea in the East.
Home found somewhere between the two.

And perhaps that's part of why the word collective eventually felt so natural here, too.

Cedar & Sea has become a place where different people, practices, and perspectives can exist alongside one another without needing to become the same thing.

Massage and bodywork. Acupuncture. Esthetics. Hair. Creativity. Conversation. Quiet. Community.

Different branches, if you will, sharing the same space.

As Cedar & Sea continues to grow, I hope it always carries that feeling of being both rooted and open… grounded in where we come from while making room for where we're going.

Because sometimes home isn't one place.

Sometimes it's the pieces of ourselves we carry from one coastline to another.

That is Cedar & Sea.
